The short version
Some of the outbound links on SpoolMath are affiliate links. If you click one and then buy something from the retailer, we may earn a small commission — at no extra cost to you. We only recommend products we'd actually use ourselves.
That's it. That's the whole thing. If you want the longer legal disclosure required by the FTC and the specific programs we participate in, read on.
What an affiliate link is
An affiliate link is a normal hyperlink with a tracking parameter appended to it. When you click the link and buy something within a window (usually 24 hours on Amazon, up to 30 days on some brand programs), the retailer pays us a small cut of the sale — typically 1% to 8% depending on the product category.
You pay the same price you'd pay if you went directly to the retailer's site without clicking our link. The commission comes out of the retailer's margin, not your wallet.
Programs we participate in
SpoolMath is a participant or pending applicant in the following affiliate programs:
- A
Amazon Associates
Status: Active
- M
MatterHackers (Affiliatly)
Status: Pending application
- B
Bambu Lab Affiliate (via ShareASale / Awin)
Status: Pending application
- C
Creality Affiliate (via Impact or direct)
Status: Pending application
- P
Prusa Research Affiliate (direct portal)
Status: Pending application
- E
Elegoo Affiliate (via Impact)
Status: Pending application
If a program above is marked "Pending application," any product links in that program currently point to the retailer's normal product page without affiliate tracking — we simply haven't been approved yet. Once approved, our existing links update automatically via our affiliate config and start earning the commission with no change to your experience.
How we pick products
Every printer and filament we link to is one we'd actually recommend to a friend starting out in 3D printing. We don't rank products by commission rate, and we don't take money from manufacturers for favorable placement.
When two products are close on quality, we'll usually link to whichever one is available through a direct-brand affiliate program (Bambu Lab, Prusa, Creality, Elegoo) rather than Amazon — because brand-direct programs typically pay better commissions to independent sites like ours, which keeps this project sustainable. But if Amazon has a clearly better deal on a given day, we'll point you there instead.
FTC required disclosure
In compliance with the Federal Trade Commission's 16 CFR Part 255 "Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising," we disclose that:
- SpoolMath may receive affiliate compensation for purchases made through outbound links on this site.
-
All affiliate links carry
rel="sponsored"in their HTML markup, as recommended by Google Search Central and required for transparency. - We are a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com.
- Our editorial opinions, reviews, and product recommendations are not influenced by our affiliate relationships. We receive no payment for reviews beyond the standard commission structure of each program, and we do not accept free products in exchange for coverage.
Questions?
If anything on this page is unclear or you think we're missing a required disclosure, let us know. We'd rather over-disclose than under-disclose. Email will be set up as the site grows — in the meantime, issues on the GitHub repo are welcome.
